WORTHY
IS THE
LAMB.
Scripture
“And they sang a new song, saying:
REVELATION 5:9 (NKJV)
‘You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;
For You were slain,
And have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation.’”

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.”
REVELATION 5:12 (NKJV)
Lyrics (excerpt)
Silence in heaven
Every crown laid down
Angels hold their breath
As the scroll comes out
Who can break it
Who can bear that weight
Then I see the Lamb
With the scars of grace
Sing a new song to the Lamb
Worthy
Worthy is the One who stands
You were slain
And now You reign
Every nation
Every tongue will say
Glory
Honor to the Lamb
Holy
Holy is the great I AM
Worthy are You to take the scroll
Worthy are You to make all whole
Every knee falls
Every heart calls
Jesus
The Story Behind the Song
As I began playing the notes of this song, the words “Sing a New Song” came to mind, along with the image from Revelation 5 of the Lamb who alone is worthy.
I could almost feel the silence in heaven as the scroll was held out and the question was asked: “Who is worthy?” No one was found, and John wept. Then Jesus appeared, the Lion of Judah, yet seen as the Lamb who had been slain.
Jesus still bore the marks of His sacrifice, yet He was standing, alive, victorious and worthy. He did not overcome through force, but by giving Himself in perfect love. By His blood, He redeemed people from every tribe, language, people and nation. Even now, that truth fills me with wonder.
“Sing a New Song” grew from my desire to remain in that holy moment. I imagined the crowns laid down, all of heaven hushed, and worship rising before the Lamb. As I continued to play, I was not simply thinking about a scene from Scripture. My own heart was responding to Jesus, the One who suffered for us, conquered death and now reigns forever.
The new song is more than music. It is the song of a heart that has seen again who Jesus is. It is gratitude for His mercy, wonder at His sacrifice and joyful surrender to His reign. The more clearly we see Him, the more deeply we long to worship Him.
My prayer is that this song will help us pause and behold Jesus afresh. He is the Lamb who was slain, the risen King and the great I AM. May our hearts join the worship of heaven and declare with love and awe:
“Worthy is the Lamb.”
Worthy Is the Lamb
In Revelation 5, John sees a scroll sealed with seven seals. A mighty angel asks who is worthy to open it. For a moment there is grief, because no one is found worthy.
Then the Lion of the tribe of Judah is announced — and when John looks, he sees a Lamb as though it had been slain.
This is the wonder of Jesus. He is the victorious King, yet also the sacrificial Lamb. He alone is worthy to take the scroll, because He gave Himself in love and redemption.
The new song of heaven rises from this truth. The Lamb was slain, and by His blood He purchased a people for God. Worship is our answer to His worthiness, His sacrifice, and His reign.
When we sing a new song to the Lamb, we are joining the worship of heaven. It is a song of gratitude, awe, and surrender. It is the heart declaring again: worthy is the Lamb.
“You are worthy
REVELATION 5:9
to take the scroll.”
“Worthy is the Lamb
REVELATION 5:12
who was slain.”
Pause and Reflect
- What does it mean to me that Jesus alone is worthy?
- How does the picture of the Lamb in Revelation shape my worship?
- What new song of gratitude is rising in my heart today?
A Prayer
Jesus, Lamb of God, You alone are worthy.
Thank You that You were slain and now reign. Teach my heart to join the worship of heaven, and to sing a new song to You. Let my life bring glory, honour, and praise unto Your name. Amen.
